Description

*So Matisse came to me and said: " Braque sent us a paint made with little cubes..." L. Vauxcelles ------------------------------------------- Photoshop. Subject of the piece: "Self Perception 2" ------------------------------------------- In the sentence you can read how the term "cubism" blossomed out from the evolution of one of the Fauves members, Braque. But the road till it was a gradual, yet deep need of experimentating driven by both Braque and Picasso, without any planned intention behind."When we invented cubism, we didn't want to obtain it, we were just trying to express freely ourselves in full" said Picasso once. The starting point was to battle again against the so thought mechanical representation of reality Impressionism started with, for reaching a personal way of describing the world. The main point indeed was that the reality outside had to be understood, not merely seen and painted. The cubists were blaming the Impressionists to have limited themselves at watchin the reality without using the brain for elaborating the vision. Unlike the Fauves, who were translating into violent colours a transitional feeling out from reality, the cubists wanted to show the meaning of the reality filtering it through their ego and therefore, presenting reality subjectively, but after a process in which the real becomes part of the conscience, and the representation of it then is longlasting and framed in no quick transitorial state. Through a synthesis of the visual experiences cubists reach the plasticity of the shape, then they arrive at losing the structure of normal dimensions for catchin the essence of the object represented through all points of view. Cubism watches its subjects at the same time from more points of views. Cubism tries through the bidimensionality of the canvas to communicate the complexity of reality and the acknowledgement of it, in full. For cubists it's useless to replicate reality for what it looks like, because anyway it's not in that way that our acknowledge of it is explained. They represent what they know about the object that it's not seable in the way they communicate it. That's the infamous "fourth dimension" of cubism, that Apollinaire defines like "generated from the three most known dimensions, and representing the immensity of the space that in a determined moment runs in all directions around us. It's the fourth dmension which charges objects with plasticity." The cubism in all its variations is the effort of acknowledge of reality through the reasoning about it translated into visuality. Many cubists in their research will come to abstractism.

GREAT FEATURE! This time I can be the first to comment! I'm not particulrly fond of abstract pieces in general, but I like the colours, and your smile gives a meaning to all... (and I coulnd't miss this opportunity... I'm the first! I'm the first! Never mind, sometimes I'm a little crazy...)

I know that face! ;-) ... it's fitting that you restricted yourself to photos from the same unique session by Stef, as they capture you only minutes apart, as you were at that point on 3rd November... also the lighting conditions will be the same. Maybe you've been kinda literal with the cubes but that's artist's licence hugs ;-)

you have caught me Jim ;)that's the reason for which I made a self portrait for cubism. I find silly to use my own pictures for a work (and you know how much I am reluctant to portray me in any shape ) of this importance, but I had no choice. Since like you see.. all 7 pieces will have a different media used, this was the only way I could have used purely Photoshop ;) You Sherlock Holmes :)

Love it. An artist being viewed 3 dimensionally, viewing herself 3 dimensionally. I enjoyed, as always, viewing this one, 2D as well as 3D.

Just excellent work on this Meli. I love the split second views of your face combined with the elements of cubism...so very well expressed and defined. You continue to show us the limitless sides to "Meli".
