Description

This is a conceptual scene that I am working on based on the Hobbit, by JRR Tolkien. My intent is to take the description of what the hall looked like from the novel and draw the great hall at its pinnacle when thrain, thror's son was still king under the mountain. All comments welcome, this is my first image where I have textured as extensively, and also my first image with multiple lights.

I never read the book so am uncertain to its description of the hall. This is a pretty big challenge to do for anyone. Looks good so far but I think the light towards the ceiling would be a lot dimmer than the light at the floor. Unless you plan on putting some large ceiling chandelier or sconces on the pillars. Good luck with your project.

I think you should put dim lights with an orange glow infront of each of the fire sticks so you get a nice fire glow and one or two main lights in the centre of the hall just to cast some shadow onto the walls. Thats what it needs shadows, lots of shadows.
