Description

Decided to spend a bit of time doing some painting in Painter and Photoshop. This is my first serious attempt at it and what better subject matter to use than a horse. I did use a photo for reference and I followed along with a tutorial by one of my fav artists, Roberto Campus. Even though he doesn't know it, I also want to thank Bob Kelly for his inspiration with the animal paintings he does. I Am reasonable happy with this but because my painting was abit rough I used abit of G blur to soften and to get rid of the roughness. Im not happy with the background, but oh well. Scott my friend - I hardly know what to say - but do know that I'm more than honored that you should mention my name. I know that Kath will be thrilled and Bob will just about fall over when he reads your dedication. This is magnificent in every way my friend - why? - because YOU painted it yourself - and as for using reference - there's not an artist alive (of those who strive to capture the reality) who doesn't need or use reference. The softness only adds to the beauty of so noble an animal - and as the main subject is a portraiture of this steed - a detailed background is unimportant and would only detract from the impact of this gorgeous piece of skilled work. Excellent and it's certainly got a vote from me.
