Not totally happy with this image yet but I thought I'd post it to get some feedback. Thanks for any constructive comments.

Looks pretty good. What's in the box ;o) I would put an omni right under the lightng and have it just affect the water to light it up some.

Wonderful idea - water, modeling looks perfect (is that all CG? amazing!) I agree that it might be a good idea to do something about the lighting, that should brighten up its nearest environment (clouds, haze etc.) Cool picture!

Yes, I agree that the sea should be lit up a little by the lightning and I'll try and do something with it in Photoshop.
Everything you see in the image was created in 3D Studio Max. The only additions were a little glow and blur on the lightning bolts, colour correction and noise all added in Photoshop.
The scene could easily be animated but at a rendertime of 2hrs per frame...hmmm!
