Description

I came across this old photo of an Old Vietnamese Gentleman and thought "What an excellent face to work with.", so, here is my interpretation in Colored Pencil of an amazing face. The sketch wast accomplished using Prismacolor Colored Pencils, Prismacolor Verithin and Col-erace Colored Pencils. The Photo Frame, enhanced lighting, Soft Focus and Bird with Flowers were done through PSP8. The Paper used was the Dark Gray Artagain by Strathmore! I hope you enjoy this work as much as I have enjoyed sketching it. As always, I welcome and look forward to your helpful comments! Have a wonderful Day!...Cheryl

What a wonderful character to work with. Very few artists would have either the nerve, patience nor ideology to work from such a strong subject as that of an elderly man whose face and pose both reflect time and wisdom coupled with an air of sophistication and relaxed constitution. As I've said prior Cheryl - color is definitely your forte - and I cannot wait to see you begin painting with a program such as PSP8. Regardless of when that happens, every piece that you work on in colored pencils gives you that much greater practice and an increase in knowledge of color harmonies, depth and lightness/darkness. Bravo dear lady - you keep them coming. Excellent and I give it a you know what!

Excellent work, and one of my favorites of yours. The shading is just right and the wrinkles and pose really tell of a man deep in emotion...

You have definitely captured the Asian mystery of paper and it's connection to cellulose and wood. Just a glance and I know it's good work. More study and it comes alive.
