Description

Here's some of the stuff I've been doing in the real world. I work with a brilliant glass sculptor, who pretty much does a rough conceptual design and then leaves me to my own devices making sure that it all gets done. He gets the credit, I'm happy with some cash. It all starts out with a site inspection [1], where I get to do some on-site dimensioning work. Me, mucking about in the fountain with a tape measure, while the boss is busy rubbing elbows with attractive hotel patrons. [2] I then create a couple of quick renders using LightWave 3D and composite them with photos taken on site. This gives our client the ability to visualize the sculpture, and promptly reject both schemes. Fortunately, a third scheme is approved. Again using LightWave 3D [3] I am able to accurately model what the final sculptures need to look like. These two models become the basis for a few pseudo-engineering calculations (like weight). We now can figure out that we need to build the two sculptures in several sections, otherwise we can't move the thing. Now comes the part I hate most, [4] bringing the 3D data into a CAD program to generate cut lists

Quite fascinating to see the real world application of your 3d skills. I don't suppose anybody's asked you to create a full size glass mecha tank type thing? :-)

Very interesting work Moe! I used to be a brick layer, so I can relate somewhat. Now that I run newsprint, I have 1 hour to create a quality publication. VERY fast paced work. Agree with Lahavana; Must be interesting to see your concept become a real object.
