Description

*Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life.* Bertolt Brecht ---------------- Taken with a Canon IXUS 400 no postwork. ------------------ This was taken in the Monumental Cemetery of Parabita (Lecce, Italy) during my Gallipoli holiday weekend at the start of this May. That cemetery is in itself a gem to see(that I portraited also in another picture of mine in this gallery this past September) so I love to shot pics in there. When I got this one, I was fairly pleased, and so I wanna share it for suggestin you some thoughts to ponder for today :) The "model" (who doesn't know actually about this :P, as I try to capture real life in motion) is Stef ;) Enjoy.

So true the words, and a great shot. The motion captured in the model is a wonderful contrast to the mighty tombes that seems standing there forever.

True words indeed! Have never heard about that Monumental Cemetery of Parabita, sounds like an interesting place... especially to the photographers. Great shot! Wonderful contrast between present life and eternity.

I agree with the others! Great motion capture here... The model seems a bit afraid... :)

I love the ever-so-slight vertical tilt, it really accentuates the feeling of motion for me. Don't think you've shown Stef in your gallery before have you? ... Hiya m'friend! :-D ... Sublime shot Meli :-)

I like the sense of motion too, especially against the very still looking constructions...

Hehe, "walkin' on the dark side". Nice shot, and different subject, indeed! :-)

Wonderful Meli... so crisp and vibrant. Just another reminder of why I need a digital camera LOL.

No, I didn't show Stef before :) He hates being photographed, but one of the Kisses of Jean Marc (the red) showed him of course :) And.. there's actually a drawing I did of me and him, which is the only one I have no scanning of, and which is his.. that might be used on his page, if he will ever dignify himself in filling that ;) You know... he's not really up for any art :) (ehhhhhh :P)

It is good to see that between life and death there is good drainage. One would hate to get the sniffles at that point...

Your words are more powerful than the image, thus making the image more powerful. The concept of life and death is a hard one to tackle regardless of your theological inclination.

I love the way your mind looks at things, Meli - and the way it gently turns our attention to seeing those same sights. It's really a wonderful gift all by itself! Lovely work

I'm stirred by your text and your very fine photo gives me a sense of elegant, respectful silence.

Well I simply love it, and the words of Bertolt Brecht are so fitting in such a place...adds to the atmosphere.

Every piece from you is like cake. A rich, sumptuous, moist, and chewy cupcake of soul. Seeing Stef is like seeing a part of your persona, your choice in male companion tells more about you than you know.

Great picture. Gives a claustrophobic feeling to me but with lots of light due to the nature around and the sky. Exactly what death is as well. And just different compared to the swedish cemetaries. we are way more combining it with the nature I think. But this seems to be a very..how can I say...powerful cemetary. with the buildings and so on. Anyway, great picture and love the angles. and 'walking' feeling :)

Isn't life a decreasing counting to death? Aren't we dying beings from birth till the last breath of life?

I like cementaries, they are so peaceful and help to keep the right perspective on what's important and what's not... Thank you for reminding it with your photo, Meli :)))

Motion, perspective and mood. All beautifully balanced by your choice of words. What can I add to that which has already been said? Nothing. :))

Great shot.Never saw a cemetary like that before.I only hope that the next level of existence for us is much more promising!

HE looks as if he was looking from side to side...expecting something or someone to jump out at him...it does look spooky. I love cemetary's my favorite being in New Orleans. Great work!
