Description
Shot with a digital Canon borrowed from subject's father. About 5:00 pm in mid-March 2003, after descending from a climb of Carihuairazo in Ecaudor. Some manipulation and enhancement. (Actually significant manipulation, though all the photographic elements are real and from that same climb.) Touch-up in PhotoDeluxe.

For the curious, everything below the closer ridge-line is untouched. I cranked up the blue of the sky and inserted the glacier-covered Chimborazo, which should actually be off to the right of the photo. Carihuairazo, which we climbed, was actually a little further left and invisible in the clouds. (The summit of Chimborazo is the closest point to the sun, even above Everest, because of the earth's ecuatorial bulge. James, the seated climber, has made it to the top.) Original, uncombined photos can be found at http://www.aschmann.net/PhotosAndStuff/Photos/MountainClimbingAndScenic/Carihuairazo/ And yes, it was a very nice rest. We still had 1000 feet to climb back UP from that beautiful valley to get to the ridge where the jeep was parked. We made it to the vehicle just as the sun sank completely.
