Description

Hi all, I wasn't sure if I should really post this here, as 80% of it is Photoshop, but I only know you good folks here, and I was a bit scared to go elswhere LOL! This is a test image just to get opinion really, I would like you to be critical if you feel it warranted. I feel that Photoshop is eaqually as good at Landscape generation as Vue is (just look at Hobbit's work to see I ain't jokein'!) And this is my first attempt at something totally new. The background is Vue, everything else is hand drawn in Photoshop. Thx as always Kutter.

Thats excellent work. Very impressive for 2D. The shadow of the main tree come up a little too soft (transparent). Looks like your using a similiar texture set throughout to what you use in Vue. The bushes come up very well. If you like 2D, do it, but I think I'll stick with 3D.

Reflash, I cant take credit for this method. Its actually as old as grass (no pun intended - it really is LOL) All I did here is paint like you would with oil paints. Start with a dark background for the trees, and slowly build up at least one other colour on top to give the tree the correct lighting (this was easy as I knew where the light was coming from thanx to Vue) It's tricky to do this with a mouse, I use a graphics tablet, but it 'is' possible. Then make yourself a custom brush and make it foliage shaped (a bit like a 'D' on its side) Then just Paint black/dark brown patches where you want the foliage. On top put a lighter colour, then on top again put a lighter colour. The important things to remeber are... 1.NOISE !! This is your best friend!! It makes BAD pen strokes look very good! 2. Curves is also your best friend! Learn to use it by playing with it! 3.Do EVERYTHING on seperate layers (this way you can change each parts colour, and look indipendantly) Hope this helps, Kutter.

Great work, I'm still trying to get the hang of the basics of Photoshop and your knocking this sort of thing out, oh well! back to the manual..

Nice work - definitely a more painterly style than you would normally get from Vue.
"I feel that Photoshop is equally as good at Landscape generation as Vue"... well maybe, but perhaps not for the more artistically challenged amongst us. It's a bit of a shock to my system at least to find myself back in an environment where I have to paint everything from scratch - no terrain generators, no pre-formed models - a factor that restricts the range of subjects I tackle in a 2D painting program in line with my limited draftsmanship. But yes, for those with the innate ability at drawing and painting, it's an excellent alternative.

Love those trees. They are a passion of mine. This is very nicely done. I just hope we'll have trees like that in 3d someday. Is it possible to change the angle of brushes in Photoshop? The tree on the right has the bark vertical all the way up and down the tree. Don't know if that's a limitation of the brushes or you meant it to be that way. I would love to see a tutorial on this method. I thought Hobbitt must be painting most of his images, because you can't get super trees like that in Vue and especially in Bryce at this point in time. Vue and the great modelers like Orio are getting closer all the time, though.

Really Kutter, i think you should do more of these. You are obviously very skilled in hand-drawing. Marvelous work here. As someone who could hardly draw a circle, and uses Photoshop only for doing textures (And even that with a lot of pain) I can only envy you :)

first i had you to tell this is a great one - very very well done - at second i wonder why people make differences between 3d 2d oil paintings airbrush and so on, think it is not important how you do a picture, the only important is the result - think i said this here at renderosity very often, but it is my opinion - and the result you get is boooooooooooah - excellent - and i mean not only this one the others that i saw in your gallery are stunning stuff as well. congratulations uwe - see you
