Description

My first attempt to model a cut glass object. I know the shadow from the lighting (single light) is missing, but it was set when I rendered it. Not sure why it didn't show up. Other than that I'm fairly please with it.

Its very hard to crit this one because of its background. Its very bad imo, it doesnt have anything to do with glass or to show off the curves of the glass. And the grass is more "wild" looking and it takes away from the glass. Add a few more lights and atleast put it on a grey flat surface and turn on caustics and you will have a 200% better pic. Good start though.

Well you have to start somewhere, so not a bad effort. Did you use SLA (channel) fresnel which will give the edges some density and help cast that shadow? Also I suspect you rendered it with the default RT reflection setting of 2. Set it to 3 and you will see a dramatic improvement in the quality of the glass. Adding a touch of colour or even a coloured environmental bitmap will also help the shadow to have something to cast. You could add another light, but beware of over complicating the lighting situation and losing control.
