Part Three -
After landing the Tardis in a small British Columbain town, The Doctor awakens to two canadian law officers accusing him of being a murder suspect, when they discovered him laying in a field outside his Police Box. Now officer Andrea Blaine has started questioning the Doctor, with no help from him at all. But just as she interrogates him about it, another victim has fallen as prey to the real culprit. A native indan woman has been attacked by the deadly indiviual, the attack was swift and she stood there screaming in terror.
Back at the local hostpital, Andrea is still trying to get answers out of the Doctor, who is sitting in the emergancy hospital bed waiting for her to give him a mirror. Andrea finds one on the table next to her and hands him the mirror he so desperately is asking for. The Doctor claps it in his hand and beings to survey his newly regenerated face that he's now forced to bear with.
" Oh my, my, my........look at that face. Pudgy isn't it? Oh and that short hair....funny I don't recall having a trim. Oh and look at nose! ", the Timelord sighs. " You'd think after all these changes I'd get a look that suits me better. Oh well I suppose it will have to do...."
Andrea takes back the mirror as the Doctor returns it to her. She's not sure about what to make about this strange man, but she still has to find out what he was doing up on the mountain side.
"Ok, you've seen your face, you hate your look, now tell me what you were doing up there?!"
The Doctor starts to get out of bed and tries to reassure her he's not the one they're after, " Look...Andrea wasn't it? Look Andrea, you've obviously got the wrong man. If you were running after someone, his shoes and clothes would have been a wreck. Muddy soles, tears in the fabric from rubbing on the branches, and seeing how it was a rather misty day......his hair would have been drenched."
All of which seemed to make sence to Andrea, she had a look on her face as if she were lost in thought about those key things he just mentioned. While she pondered those bits of information, the Doctor stood up and begain to look around his bedside area. Andrea still muddling around about his observation, tries to dig a bit deeper, but notices that this man is distracted as he looks around.
" Well...thats true. I did mention that earlier, you could have overheard me as you where lying there. But Doctor, you were the only one there. I mean its not as if the other person just vanished into the forrest...............what are you looking for??"
The Doctor paused, looking frustrated, he glanced up at her. " I'm looking for my things....I had objects and trinkets you're kind shouldn't be messing around with. "
" Oh you mean that weird looking objects and that odd shaped key?",she quips.
The timelord gets a glimmer of hope in his eye, perhaps she still has them with her the thinks. " Yes.....thats them.....do you have them with you? "
Andrea nods negatively, " No, I'm sorry......the Sheriff took them over to Headquaters near by. I think he's probably filed them away for now. "
His hope fades after hearing that. He then looks down and sees his shoes, he sits back down on the bed reaches down to his dressy style shoes and begins to put them on. Andrea feels that the investigation is going nowhere at the moment, but at the same time, her suspect is trying to get away infront of her.
" Where do you think your going? I haven't finished with you yet. Keep those shoes off! ", she says raising her voice at him.
The Doctor not paying her any mind, keeps tying up his laces and lays down a bit of old Doctor charm on her. " I've had enough time with your questions my dear, I need to find my things and be off on my merry way. You know you have quite the keen mind, I noticed how you sumed me up when you were hovering over me. Yes....yes your quite good." And with that he gets up and gives her a bit of a wink.
Andrea is slightly taken by that bit of flattery, but then snaps out of it as she sees him walk out the main doors. " Hang on a minute!! Come Back Here!! "
She strides after him as he walks out of the hospital and out into the small town. For a man who seemed injured, his energetic walk is hard to fathom thinks Andrea. She finally starts to catch up to him as he curiously looks around the town, he seems puzzled by something, a look of a man who's not sure about the place he's in.
" Doctor! Wait up! I can't have you running around here! " , she says in a out of breath manner.
" Strange isn't it. The town is very quiet......I thought this was thriving community? Not too many people I take it? " His tone of voice seems calmer as he asks the question to Andrea who's finally in stride with him.
" Well, no. This town used to be alot busier then this, but after a few strange things happening lately, a good portion have taken off. "
An interested look begins to form on the Doctors face, " Strange things? What sort of strangeness are we talking about here? "
She continues, " Oh....ahhh....well, for starters, there've been these odd murders. Before that some people started reporting sounds of animals creeping close to their homes...uhmm...and also we kept getting calls of the local native people here have been found wandering the streets in a daze. But by the time we show up, they're denying it happened. "
The Doctor listens with great interest, " Hmm.....and what about these murders? What's been happening about those...."
Just as Andrea is about to explain, the Sheriff pulls up in his squad car along side Andrea and the Doctor as they walk. " What the hell is he doing up and about?? I told you too keep at the hospital, not take a tour!! "
Too lost for words, she opens her mouth to find an explination as she looks back and forth between the two men. Sheriff Bill Plamer looks to conserned to worry about it for now, as he quickly adds in new information to her.
"Oh never mind, come on with me quick! They've lost another one again.....looks like old lady Redfeather is missing this time. Well stop your gawking and get a move on will ya! You'd better come with us too mister, if we can't keep you at the hospital at least I can keep ya near so you don't run off. "
They both pile into the car and make they're way to Redfeather's house. Andrea explains to her superior who the Doctor says he is, and that his chance meeting with them was by sheer accident. Plamer scoffs at his "claimed " innocence, but soon draws his attention to Redfeather's house as they start to approach the building. Outside a group of natives await them, all varied in ages and sizes. The car parks and they all get out as they witness the group of people sitting around.
The youngest teen gets up and greets them, " Hey Bill! Man I hope you can help..."
" Hey Ed, whats with the gathering? ", the sheriff asks in a humorous tone.
Ed looks back, snickers and looks back at Plamer again. " Oh yeah, well they wanted to see what they could fine too. I called you guys first...then they showed up.....weird huh man?"
Andrea walks up, " Hey Ed. Your Grandma doesn't usually wander off right? I mean, she's not usually taking off with out telling you right? "
The young kid, looks at Andrea, " Oh no way, hell....she wouldn't even walk off this property ya know? No shes usually the one yelling at me for not telling her where I am half the time ya know? " Ed notices the Doctor walking upward towards the back end of the house. From the distance of where he is standing, he turns around and asks Ed, " Do you know where you last saw her? "
Ed looking confused as to who this mr. nobody is, still answers him as if he were one of the officers, " uh....yeah man, she was 'round back hangin' stuff up on the laundry do hickey "
They all move to the backyard, Andrea and the Doctor take notice of the non-fenced area that leads into the forrest. The curious Timelord wanders over to the scene of the crime and examines the area. Andrea also leans in with him and notices the various signs of struggle that must have taken place. Drops of blood on the ground and linen, with some of the wash on the muddy ground and drag marks all around the hanger.
" Looks like she was attacked by something. Maybe one of the wildlife near by dragged her off?" Andrea inquires.
The Doctor halts that train of thought with his own observation. " Not likely, they're would have been drag marks taking her away, plus there's not enough blood here to assume she was mauled by anything. Just a few specks and the one stand off here. Interesting..."
The Doctor gets up from staring at the ground and looks over at an old native man staring back at him. The old man is sitting in a chair, smoking his hand carved wood pipe, the smoke swirls around him and his eyes peer out from very wrinkled skin. With their eyes locked, the old man starts to crack a smile and gives a slight cackle in his old raspy voice. Too far away to hear the old man speak, the native calmly speaks under his breath as he takes note of the stranger before him.
" The demon has come......I know you.....demon of time. Yes sir, death awaits you...hahahahaha! "
