Description

Eight little soldiers
all lined up in a row
they need to cover each other
they are the weakest of them all.

One step at a time
in the battle field they move
always forward, never look back
tile by tile, until they reach the last.

They are not alone
that's very important stuff
sometimes the rest of the army
get's positioned to cover their back.

Usually their are ignored
by the unexperienced strategists
who forget everyone is important
that this is all a big circle.

But even to the worst combatant
this little soldier important becomes
when get's close to the last row
for an incredible change is to come.

They are magicians you see,
the only ones in the battlefield
but not until they reach the end
are they able to use their magic.

Many times they are sacrified
killed for the sake of strategy
proudly defending their King
their Queen or even the Castles.

That's the only time, when they fight
in wich they don't just go forwards
but instead face the enemie
on either of the two front diagonals.

If you'd ever push one hard
and you get him to the last line
you'd presence the awesome magic,
the shapeshifting of this little soldier
who can become any other of the army.

The image that goes with this work it's not mine, it's from Linkinpark, and it's used with his permission.
The original artwork can be seen in his gallery and it's named King is Dead
I've seen he was selected artist of the month, so I went to check, I saw he likes chess themes, and his chess works inspired me into writing this lousy thig (dunno if I can call it poetry)
It may have lots of errors for I'm not a native English speaker I'ts been thought in English, it's not a translation, and I didn't run an grammatic or spelling corrector on it.
It's ment to be a tribute to the author of the original image who I believe it's very good at what he does (And apparentely I'm not the only one)
I "accidentally" ommited it will be a tribute to him when I asked his permission to use his image, so I hope you don't get mad Martin.
This is also dedicated to all chess lovers and players.

Thanks for reading

Jeez Lininpark... I'm blushing... Thank you very much for your comment. And also thank you because it was your chess art that inspired me to write it, so part of the credit is yours. As you all can guess I love chess. And as you surely can see, this writing is VERY different from my previous one. Thanks again LinkinPark.

There was an apology of mine for the goofy alignment.. I've managed to correct that, so I removed the apology, however, the whole thing still looks goofy to me.
