Description

I've been wanting to do more ships. I like to make up the lore of the late 1700s or early 1800s of the coastal areas. This was a model I've been thinking about getting for a while but wanted to seek out alternate ideas first. I gave in. It's a sweet model. This is Bryce with just a quick contrast adjustment in photoshop. HMS Victory by Hankster

Wow. I am in awe. This is very breaktaking. I can feel the brisk air on my skin - it's that real to me.

In heavy seas like you portray, the gunports would be closed. Also, only one flag per mast would be flying, and then only in port. The only time a ship would fly a flag at sea was for recognition if sighted by another ship, or when she was going into battle. The use of all the sails like this would only be if there was very little wind. In heavy weather here in your rendering, the absolute minimum use of sails would be utilized, if only to provide just enough steerage way. Otherwise, this much sail use would, "tear the sticks out of her", or dismast the ship. The modeler who created this model provided all the sails and all the proper flags for any number of weather conditions. Not to be all used at once. Research your subject. Old paintings, photos of the Tall Ships that still exist. They can show you what sail and flag configuration to use in whatever weather. I do like the surface fog effect, and the darkened daylight harkening to a storm arriving.

Yes Fit very good points but who cares!! For me this is a truely wonderful image. CJ, you have done an amazing job with this image. The waves are most certainly the best I have seen come out of bryce, bravo for that. I also love the sea atmosphere, excellent work. Top render. ---- Scott.

Personally, I couldn't care about the exacting details fit posted. All I care about is if a persons creativity catches my eye - you have caught my eye. Outstanding job. I have this model also and will someday use it.

I agree with Scott and garyandcatherine: who cares? :) Of course, Fit's pointers are cool, but if the image has this quality, I tend to give in to genuine enthusiasm. Indeed a top render, for atmosphere, light and overall quality.

Thanks for the lovely comments. Fit is just trying to help. Can't please em all. My response is that it's from me, my mind. It's foggy so it can't be too windy can it? The waves are a mtn terrain tiled together, I'll put up a tut. Thanks everyone, Thanks a lot!

Yea, I quickly reconized the waves as being the result of water texured terrain. Ive played around with the idea. It is a beautiful pic, but i would suggest a better resolution. The distortion just KILLS the picture. though with the same model I beleive a bryce novice could develope the exact effects. I dont mean to be harsh But take more time and planning with great ideas as this. quick tip: The sails clearly gives the impression of movement. Use some other terrains to create ripple and splash effects.

Fantastic!! The water is amazing. As for the various comments about realism... You could double it's length and put a jet engine on the back if you want.... it's art, it's your art, you can do anything you like.
