Description
Watercolour, acrylic on impasto medium on 300 gsm watercolour paper. Original image 3 x 4'.

This was originally an unclaimed commission of a glass eagle within a stormy sky which sat around, very hidden, for years. Then one night I decided I hated it so much and I wanted to go ape with some paint, so started. After working in mostly digital or watercolour for the last few years it was an incredibly free feeling to get dirty with the impasto medium and sculpt the rocks and waterfall. When painting over with the acrylics, I used layers, starting off with a yellow where I wanted the rays of light from the clouds and then working the red ochre over the top.
Thanks to Raye for the use of her digicam ;)

I adore that red Cassie, something about this means it could only be Oz. Such an energy brewing. Love it hon hugs :-)

This really is different! I love the sky and water. It does show a lot of energy, as Synapse said. You are good at everything you do!

I remember when you did this & it's such a treat to see that energy at last! I love the sky, the tension there is palpable & the whole image gives me such a vivid & forceful impression of all the elements..... just love it!

I love the sky there. Those kinds of clouds are some of my favourites. :D And the rocks look a bit like clay where someone's gone and mushed them up and squashed them down to make the surface as lumpy as possible. You can almost see other shapes and forms in there. I can see a claw and a woman lifting a baby...

Powerful colors and I love that dramatic sky. Now when I got tricked to look for things hiding in the rocks I see a lot of different shapes :-)

No words for such a wonderful mastery dear... you're immense :)

Fantastic! The rich earth colours so typical of Oz I love... how the elements give off so much energy!!!and the lava flow of the stream softens the tempest of the storm, yet still looks foreboding as though their is another brewing.
