Description

This is part of my never ending animation. I am making slow progress due to lack of time and a verrrrrry slow machine. The render is from my apc model - still in progress. The photo will be in an album that is a major part of the short. Post work in photo shop of course:-) Still working on the crew and other sets, objects etc. Should be done by about 2010.

Very cool! Did you get the b/w photo effect in PS or is that a render setting? The model is very accurate, is it yours? Are there others?

Thanks, the noise and desaturation, the dirt and scratches are all PS. The model is mine. It is getting more accurate as I go but very slowly. At this stage the only other vehicles I am working on are 1968 landrover and an internal MkIV troop transport vehicle and a UH-1D Iroquois chopper... Like I said, should be finished by 2010 :-)

Looks really cool!!! My only comments would be the driver hatch looks un textured, is it? also maybe throw some texture ond lower the difuse on the fabric roll. It looks a bit plastic. Try throwing a procedual bump map that is fairly large on the metal surfaces with a slight amount to give a slight uneveness to the metal. The perfect planes gives away the cg. Also the shadows are very even. There is no deepening of the shadows as it meets the ground. Maybe run off a render with radiosity to get a truer look? Either way, don't get me wrong, this looks FANTASTIC would love to see your other models!

Thanks for the comments so far. I'm glad you like although I'm still far from satisfied with it. Petes, yep the hatch isn't textured yet. It will be open for most shots and I still need to add some details inside. The fabric is actually an oiled nylon / canvas which is kinda plastic like and specular so it is accurate although could use more tweeking. The surface is only colour map so far, still working on the bump maps, spec and diffuse. As for the radiosity, I will post another shot I did - 48hours for one frame. Won't be doing that again until I get my new machine ;-) It does look almost photo real though.. I will post thewhole series as they develop but it is going very slowly.

Take your time... this sort of superb work does take time to happen, and it is certainly worth the wait.

What are those guns on the front of the turret? Didn't M113s generally mount a single M2HB fifty caliber?

Tyrfin, the aussie ones commonly moount 2 X 30 cal or in vietnam, they often dispensed with the turret mount due to speed of rotation and mounted a single 50 on a bolt on mount at the front of the turret. This one is configured as the former. When I was driving them, they were configured like this for ARV/APC. Must get back to finishing this model sometime...
