This is pathetique. The photo shows real horror and you turn it sentimental. Its a rape.

Although I enjoy the image, what amuses me here is that by judging by some of the reactions that I've read here, this image has accomplished one of the primary goals of art, and that is to evoke an emotional response in the viewer. Good or bad is irrelevent. The fact that the strength of the response is there is what is important. Also the fact that the intangible has been made tangible. It is a photograph that stirs questions in one's soul. (The intangible) And by adding a single element this artist has given the image a more personal meaning. (The tangible)

Just putting a sceleton in? That's not enough!

I give you a 10 for public feedback alone. I think those people who didn't like the picture would have liked it if you put some giant breasts somewhere in there. Oh, and an armor-plated thong.

A little background on the original photo. It was taken duting the Korean war and was actually posed. The photographer needing something in the foreground of this bombed out train station saw a woman with a baby walking by. He persuaded the mother to lend him her baby and acfter smearing some dirt on he placed the child in the foreground. It became an icon of the misery of war.

The photo is from WW2 and was taken in China after a Japanese Boming raid...I like the addition to the photo...war sucks
Turin_Turambar
I is a poignant piece considering our current situation in the west. I wonder if the people who have commented on your 'borrowing' have heard of Andi Warhol? -- Thank you for centering us on an important issue - war always ravages the innocent.

after a good deal of studdying this i finally figured out what it was that kept catching my eye. one small edit to make is the specularity on the skeletons skull. that little glint of light makes it just a bit plasticy (if thats a word) to me. I think a change in ambience would make the skeleton slightly more real and less apparent that its a 3d model. the rest of the skeleton looks perfect. otherwise... awesome image! keep it up
Melandra
Putting a skeleton into this picture just removes any need for thought as to what the picture is saying and turns a powerful image into a joke. It's trite and kitsch in the extreme.

There is some evidence that the original was staged by the photographer. This was taken from a News Reel. The rest of it shows people with the child who the photographer must have asked to move.
Mickeyme
I cant belive that it was happened. Perfect picture which realize fact.

MickeyMe, I sent you a link to another image from the News reel.

This is the message that the picture, and added portion imply... WAR is TRAGEDY, but before, where you JUST saw the crying baby, NOW you see the remains, whether earthly or ethereal, of the parent, wishing a way to sooth the child. Look at this again, and think of it that way. I paint cars for Nascar Racing 2003. ALL of my stuff is original, from the Logos and contingecies, down to the paint scheme. It took me a few cars to get to that point, but the base was ALWAYS mine. other people used my stuff, logos, paints, etc, and got REALLY good comments and whatnot. I does purturb me that people got better ratings than me JUSt because he slapped 4-5 different PEICES that OTHERS did together, and gone TONS of praise for doing SQUAT. but that is Race car painting, there is no REAL talent to that kind of work (even though I think I'm talented at it ). ART is a different story here, you SEE something here, give credit to the ORIGINAL artist, then ADD your own to it to make a STATEMENT... The statement is tragic, and shows something that the Photo cannot, the spiritual side of life. When your parents die, when YOU die, they/you, will still be there, looking on, they/you will be there with them throughout their journey through life, incapable of interfering, but always watching, helpless to do anything but be the observer, a pain within itself. Learn from it... don't jepordize your life, or the life of others... as a person that could have lost my life to a drunken fool nights ago... I relate. I learned. Nice work, keep CONTENT coming, not the usual "Oh, ANOTHER nude... how original...HMPH!"

Facts about the photo: Photographer: H.S. Wong Date: 28th of august, 1937 Location: Shanghai Casualties: approx. 1500 Nice done, but the despair of the child and the fact that it did survive makes the skeleton out of place. You should give the child it's guardian angel!
jocko500
the skeleton next to the child means the child will died of lack of food or sickness or other things that goes with war. very great statment
rickymaveety
Oh and PS: having seen that the artist gave full credit to the original photographer, I do not think this could be considered copyright infringement.

good work!

lito642
Disturbing, though no doubt the Artist's goal. It makes you scroll back to look again.
