Powerful, the images of Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, are tremendously powerful, it would be easy to cheapen thier importance. But you have added another (Meaningful) demension to this tragic image.

As a statement piece, it is stunning. This image speaks out about war, destruction and the innocent all at once. With three baby girls at home, this image makes me want to rush home and give them a big hug. As a technical piece, the plastic looking skull glint is my only gripe. Excellent compositing and getting the skeleton to the correct size and perspective was done wonderfully. Even the slight tilt of the head showing empathy on the skeleton's part is perfect.

If I ever create a work that can evoke such an emotional response that this image has made, I will die happy. Know that you have created a true work of art. Thank you.

I have read a lot of opinions here on whether this is art or garbage. I'm not going to give one. The fact is, plain and simple, that whether this is a masterpiece or a joke is not a decision left up to the reviewers of Renderosity. We reviewers can say all we want, but what really matters is how history judges it. This image was posted several years prior to this posting, and is on the top of the Most Viewed Gallery. Whether this image is good or not is irrelevant. Now, the only true statement made here is that this art evokes strong feelings in many people. For that, I tip my hat to you.

Sometime, look at pictures of the aftermath at Dresden. Yes, in this one the skeleton is placed onto and yes, that will make clear what this artist's reaction was and make that clear and accessible to a lot of people whose own reactions in turn will deeply affect them and they'll appreciate that (it yes is amazing how many interpretations people will draw from any one image no matter how blatant each thought the story was) ... I can accept that this is communication however derivative some may find it ~ but also, the original image did tell the story, that's why the original photographer acted and did succeed already, I hate to say but honestly I find the added skeleton an obvious pastishe and distraction ... photos of the destruction at Dresden will similarly demonstrate how a mute monochrome photojournalistic document can tell the story with tremendous power and render any additions or words superfluous. Welcome to the next level.

Reflection is what you provide by re-using this picture.

Sometimes the best art isnt creating something original, it is taking something old and breathing new life and meaning into it. How much time this image took is irrelevant. Merely the number of posts it has recieved proves that art is individual, powerful, and controversial. Huzzah for the artist.

wow...what a picture...it's beautiful in the saddest way...reminds me of how nobody wins in war...

The original photo does a fabulous job of leading the viewer to contemplate the destruction, loss and tragedy of war. This image, on the other hand, leads one to reflect on death almost exclusively. It's a focused effort that distils the original image. We tend to get hung up on the tragedy and loss that death brings, but I'd suggest that this effort makes the viewer (or at least myself) reflect on the nature of death rather than just the event. Death is not always unwelcome, or evil. Great work.

incredible u have truly captured the original feel of the picture, visually stating what i always feel seeing a pic like this, the horror has no words to express. i dont care about the lighting etc it had to be like this to retain the war photo element very nice job thank u

I think there are many people here who have better said what I feel on this in that it's a very powerful art. The general message is the same, but the interpretations are what interest me, in that so many people have pointed out how they view the skeleton in relation to the child. There is no one way to look at this. Where, in the original photograph, I felt a sense of solitude, now the skeleton adds a new feeling to it that could still represent solitude, but also another wealth of possibilities, depending on the viewers mood and disposition to death. Art that really makes a viewer think and ask questions is few and far between and this does exactly that. Wonderful!

this is an interesting image, and judging solely by the many, many comments, a succesful piece of art. art makes us think, if the art is any good, and indeed, many people "thought" about your retouch of an important historical photograph, and left their feelings here in these posts. we dont know what your purpose was in creating this image...were you making a statement? were you purposely trying to create controversy? in the end it really doesnt matter. the image is stirring and frightening and sad and ugly and brutal, all at once. for anyone who would like to read about the original photograph, see additional photographs of the same scene, and read about how it was purportedly staged, you can go here: http://www.thenausea.com/elements/japan/child.html but i see nothing wrong with taking someone else's image, and putting your own feelings into it. this is what art is all about. very nice work, regardless of what you may have been trying to accomplish... this is a 5, and a favorite.

How terrible and powerful. That could be his mother, couldn't it... I think the skeleton only adds more. Very well done, I'd say almost ingeniously well done. I agree with loneglyph, but in fewer words: this is no technical achievement.
