Beautiful design Ethesis! A captivating piece of work!

Thanks. I've been trying to get a good sword render done, gave up and finished a real one. I was torn on the hilt, should I fit it to fit my hands or should I go for a cleaner line. I ended up fitting it to my hands, since I plan to play with it more than look at it.

Nice artwork.

I have to confess I couldn't get the render done the way I liked one, so I actually got a real blade and made the hilt myself by hand with hickory, blued wire, files and all. At least now I have a full sized model . The grip's curve actually works, and the assembly is very comfortable. Makes a great cutter.

nice, very nice, what is the blade made out of and does it continue down the intire length of the handle? Very nice work tho.
Ethesis
The blade is made from differentially hardened carbon steel (i.e. not stainless). The tang continues to the very end. The earlier pictures in my gallery show the handle and blade before I began to work on them. The blade is from Kris Kultery -- they no longer make them with this type of tang, (the new ones all have a traditional tang) or this kind of blade geometry (the new ones are closer to traditional). But, I wasn't trying to make a katana, so I'm very pleased.

Great work! And smart move fiting it to your hands. You could put out a TV screen or something. :] (trust me it happens) It looks well balanced, not too heavy at the tip.

Looks like it would be a very comfortable sword to handle, it's really impressive. Great work. =)

I have handled only one real sword, in semi final stages of being crafted, at the Minnesota Renaissance fair, it was one the smith was making for himself ... it was beautiful BUT: far beyond design specifics type stuff, what I immediately apprehended about it was ~ the thing was like alive, the flex and balance made weight seem gone, it was not designed just for me and I didn't even really know how to hold it - yet I could draw with and in space as if thought were its motive, a real and living extension of my own body. Totally deepened my understanding of them, they are not just a length of dead heavy metal. THEN I understood so much more lovingly, how one can tell of a sword that Sings.

Oh...! You're a computer games geek, aren't you? And a sword collector? Wait till I tell Maciek about you! :D I'm a fan myself, I hope to buy two katanas one day and learn to use them... eventually :))) Love the blade!
