Description

Identical scenes had taken place that summer morning of 415 B.C. all around Athens. The Athenians decided to send an expedition force to Sicily to help the friendly city of Egesta against Syracuse after a passionate speech by the general Alcibiades. Aristeas was one of the hoplites that will participate in this rescue campaign. His good wife had perished in the great plague, 14 years ago, leaving a newborn baby in his hands. That baby was now his precious daughter Myrtale that he was raised her as both mother and father. The night before he made a sacrifice to Artemis to watch over Myrtale now that he will be away and maybe never returned back home. As it was ready to leave small footsteps followed him and a small pair of arms embraced his bronze armor. Myrtale held fast her father for the last time. Two years later Aristeas was dying in the Sicilian quarries as a slave. One of the many prisoners that was the remains of the proud army of Athens. ---------------------------- Hoplite for M3 coming soon by M&M productions. Wow. Great job with the image, the costumes, and the back story. Were Aristeas and Myrtale real people? I need to start reading some more about the Peloponnesian War now....

Good historical background! I've read about the Athenian defeat at Syracuse, and the prisoners in the quarries. Sad story, for the Athenians anyway -- a real Greek tragedy. Great pic.
