Description

Built, lit & rendered in 3dsmax, composited & post-processed in photoshop. I tend to overbuild the hell out of things, so this marked a significant advance in modeling only what I absolutely needed. Still, it took 82,000+ polys to get the detail necessary for the specular highlights and textures. For final composition in photoshop I used 9 layers of varying specular spots and reflections to get the result I was after. The image is a little dark, but I wanted to balance the detail with the lights on the wings, so a subdued environment was necessary. (Craft is not resting on surface, hence the slight appearance of floating.) (Image created Mar. 26, 2003.)

This is so cool. I love it! It's gonna be my wallpaper. I love the subtle homage to one of my favorite movies. Way to go!

And what, may I ask, is wrong with overbuilding? Excellent piece. Maybe if I start doing my stuff 9 times and compositing it I'll get halfway to here... heh.

Cool work! Just why is it labeled LV-426? I dont see any connection to the Weiland-Yutani colony. ;P
