Description

to get to this point has taken 3 hours+ and its still only 2/3 finished, i still have to add fine geometry detail like air vents etc, all the particles and volumetrics like ground level fog/smoke as well as some building lights + i have to go back and re paint the background sky/buildings as they look crap. but apart from all that i hope somebody likes it as it is my first serious attempt at a fairly large scale cityscape and yes its meant to have that hand painted look. -this is an update on the original, ive been playing around with different tones to the pic to give it some different moods- comments welcome...

Very nice work. I like the desolate and abandoned feel. I can't wait to see it when it's finished, message me when you post a final.

Very dramatic....I would like to see a little more variety in the architecture. I think the BG building look great. Maybe you could bring a little of that into the foreground. I really like the lighting in the second image. The color adds depth. Nice work to this point.

thanks for the comments, when i eventualy finish it, itll be part of the opening sequence to a short movie im doing (camera flys up from the slums to an overview of the ruined cityscape), so im trying to keep the polys down hence very little variation in foreground stuff, even at this fairly low res it takes almost 10mins to render and i just dont have the patience to wait any longer than that through a 400 frame animation. ill post the done version when im happy with it :)

I like the overral composition, but I would point that the buildings are too much alike, it doesn't feel natural, and also too ordely, to tight,.... besides that .... good work

Looks great as always flak, but I have one question. I see rays of light coming from the left upper side of the render, but the moon is in the background. What's creating the rays of light?

Cool idea - I also recently made a scene with city ruins, but i used terrain function to model it - it was quite easy and quick to render - you can check in my gallery - picture: "Dead City Colony 77"

greeble for MAX can do that in less than 10 minutes ^_^ Good job though. Although I'd like to see the little buildings shattered too

I am really not too keen on your sentinels, the scene isn't very well rendered and for the lighting changes, shouldn't the sun position change with it? Also, there is a lack of detail, making me(the viewer)bored with the lower half of the picture and for the grandiosity of the concept, shouldn't it be much larger in res? And if you are to keep the sentinels, wouldn't it be cool if there was one in the foreground flying towards the buildings in the back, or maybe The Osiris?
