Description

Well, I've been working on my technique for so long that I rather lost sight of the artistic quality of a piece. Therefore, due to my recent finding of a wacom tablet, I have been practicing that facet of CG creation. The poem was mainly just to emphasize the mood of the piece and was not really the focus. Original render in bryce, overpainted with the tablet in photoshop 6 (could probably go in mixed medium, but i'm a brycer at heart.) Comments and critiques are very much welcome. Hope you enjoy.

Fantabulous!! I am a Brycer and Photoshop user too. I have not yet mastered anything like this. Awesome combination of your tools. And beside the technique of this image, your creative imagination is impressive.

I'm going to not make a comment about lighting. The symbolism in this piece comes across strong and effective. you really captured the feeling, especially with the poem

that swirliness is perfect, i'd be happy! the canvas texture is great here, I find it often disappointing, but here it seems just at the right level, so easy to overdo it! then getting it to print is the next challenge... hehe, you'll probably do it perfectly and think i'm bonkers. :) i'm excited because i've wanted to do this combo of 3D/paint for... for... gee, forever. Fun to watch you discover some of the same old paths in a new way. Is it not the most fun? Have you tried the splattering airbrush at a 2-degree slant? pow!

OK, you asked for some beating so... The paint effect in the upper right hand section looks a bit like you ran out of time or got tired, the rest blends well, this corner looks replicated and dragged. The other pits your painting technique looks really good. Especially for just starting on the tablet. For my taste the disfigurment on the head is too much, good idea gone a bit too big. On my laptop the words are tough to read, the placement of them too seems to draw my eye on an odd direction. I think the angle of the body pushes my eye that way to start and then the difficulty in reading it pulls my concentration. I might try smaller, less transparent and positioned differently. The pose of the figure ...hmm.. the last one REALLY captured the emotion, this one is close but not quite as tight. I know it is tough with limited options but as I said, the last image nailed it. After having said all that... I love the piece, the feel, the mood, the paint technique...all good stuff. But you asked for something more than cudos and fluff so, there ya go. Nit picky to be sure. Hope it helps with what you're after.

An excellent work that engages the viewer emotionally. Great brush technique for just beginning with a tablet-!! I think the text needs to stand out just a little more since it is important for the mood of this piece. As always, it is a pleasure to see your newest experiment. I can't wait to see what you do as you use the tablet more! Your skills are growing at an impressive rate!

Technical; I'd lose the canvas effect, because it looks like a 'canvas effect'. In actual oil paintings the canvas doesn't show that much. The brush strokes in the upper right like 'very' cloned, maybe soften that brush alot. The head on the figure, is battereda little too much, it's hard to make out exactly what's going on there.....words are a bit too transparent and hard to read pass a certain point... Emotional; the figure just looks like it's waiting, not necessarily lonely, just patiently waiting...Maybe if just the feet were crossed, or better yet a fetal postion for the figure, to denote loneliness...my nit pick.. Overall; I like the image alot, good lighting an compostion, good textures, very 'painterly', it's among your best...

The painted effect is excellent Ornlu and your image portrays the concept of lonelyness very well I think. I agee that the upper right looks too cloned in parts and could do with a little more work and the letters are not bold enough to make out, but overall it is a lovely piece and the lighting is beautiful. 8)
