Description

This is a picture of a sunset at my parents' place in Sunapee, New Hampshire. I took it with my Sony DSC-P72 digital camera. Its really a great little camera but I can't manually control the fstop, shutter speed, ISO value, or exposure with it, so it makes these scenes difficult. I have no tripod so holding it still long enough at dusk is also a problem. I'm not a photographer, or artistic at all really, I'm a computer engineer. I recently saw the Nature's Best 2003 awards exhibit at the Smithsonian museum of natural history and enjoyed it very much. It inspired me to post these photos for critique. I posted two of these photos in my galery, each using the camera a little differently (trying to influence speed mostly). Which one is better? Are they any good? Thanks!

Very impressive, lovely colours and the reflection makes the shot. If this what you can do now look forward to what you achieve with some practice. A tripod is a worthy investment!

I like this one very much - a month ago I didn't have a tripod either, but as LostPatrol says, it is a worthy investment!

OK here is my take! I also Use a Sony camera, mine is a Sony Mavica. I love the fact that I can delete my pics if I don't like them. You have talent (an eye for beautiful things!) and both of your pix are good, unfortunately you don't have the advantage of having the sun in the background to give you more lighting. If you look at my sunrises and sunsets, there is lighting coming from the sun, which illuminates. (When I don't have that advantage, I take advantage of the sillouette effect!) Unfortunately, with a digital such as a Sony, you have no control over the shutter speed and there is no film speed. Try to find places that will give you the light you need to take a pic, or use a 35mm where you have control over the settings. (a tripod is a small investment) I actually like the silloutte effect you have going here, keep up the good work! :)

Even if you couldn't control some of the camera functions, it's a wonderful shot and I appreciate the great reflections
