Description

This is a WIP image of what will become a 3D virtual set for a short sci-fi movie. Right now I'm adding props and "junk" to give it a lived in look. This room is inside what will be a deep space "storage bin". The room is the sleeping quarters for the main character. Since the space station is primarily a storage facility, most rooms were intentionally designed to incorporate multiple purposes to save on space and cost. Hence, the communication screen and monitoring systems within the sleeping quarters. Though the deep space facility will be large in scale, it's designed to be maintained by one or more people while the rest of the station is monitored by bots scattered throughout the station. Any ideas/suggestions for lighting, etc. are welcome. Please feel free to email me.

Thanks, Artzy and carib98. I'm working on adding props and junk to make it look a little more "sloppy". I meant to mention that I used the Brazil r/s renderer.

The chairs look out of place. How about some stools that match the design of the table base? Great start.

I'll give it a try. See how stools look. Thanks.

I reccommend removing the faux wood paneling on the chairs, actually, to give them more of an "industrial" feel. Oh yeah, I hereby demand that you make more. 8^ )

It's actually supposed to be leather on the chair backs. But, I agree, I think a more industrial look is in order.

Very nice work! Try a bit more contrast and highlights in your lighting. What type of lights/shadows are you using. Maybe try a different texture for the floor or ceiling as it all seems a bit too similar. Hope this helps.

I'm in the process of revamping the sets. I've take up learning Maya 5 and I'm going for a grittier look in the sets. I've started visual effects work on a film, so it may be a couple more months before I can post anything new. Please check back, and keep the suggestions coming.

I like the basic design as an image, but does it work as a set? You've got that big consol hanging down in the middle of the room, which means that it might get in the way of some of your camera shots. Also, please don't go too dark in your new design. Frankly, if I see one more dark-gritty set design for a sci-fi set, I'm gonna scream! I'd suggest this: Less "Alien" and more "Red Dwarf." In that vein, consider adding food wrappers and clutter -- make one of the characters a slob (preferably the female character, if there is one). Also, consider adding clipboards (old-fashioned paper and pencil), plus a first aid kit, and junk like that. Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.
