Description

"THROUGH me you pass into the city of woe: Through me you pass into eternal pain: Through me among the people lost for aye. Justice the founder of my fabric mov'd: To rear me was the task of power divine, Supremest wisdom, and primeval love. Before me things create were none, save things Eternal, and eternal I endure. All hope abandon ye who enter here." - Dante's Inferno (canto 3 lines 1,9) Well, I've been re-reading "The Divine Commedy" by Dante, and was intrigued by his first arrival at the inferno. So, I decided to make it; seemed like an interesting enough topic. I don't usually make gory pictures. Actually, I never have. So, um, don't take anything from this except that it is an illustration of a poem. I hope you enjoy it, I sure had fun creating. Leave a comment if you can, nit-pick, or whatever you see fit. Thanks for viewing.

Great...the river of blood and bones is terrific, the spikes coming down and the welcoming arms are enough to scare anyone.

The spikes, ghostliness, and textures are really cool... how did you make them?

The models were made in rhino, textures in photoshop. The ghosts/steam was post work, as well as the eye at the top right.

Fantastic and eerie image. I think you've captured the mood wonderfully. And seein how I never shy away from the chance to nitpick... it may just be the color but the hands just seem out of place. The concept is A+. As for a personal taste, I'd put more definition to the eye, to make it seem more alive (realistic).

very nice patterns created with the spikes and bloody river. Gonna agree with muddygrub of the hands. The blueness traps the viewer in the foreground and it's hard to see into the depths. Again, very cool!

One of my favorite books and certainly a very eye-catching render from it. Excellent work...
