Description

Made in about 4 hours as practice for a Star Trek art contest, this is meant to show Starfleet people checking out a weird alien artifact on an asteroid. The ship is a model I made some months ago, the figure I downloaded and the rest I made for the image. This is my first sub, ission to Renderosity, so be gentle. I usually just make models, but I need to get practice making scenes and this will be the first in a series. Enjoy.

I like overall idea. I think maybe adding a displacement map on the terrain would make it more real and maybe some variation with the lighting... it just looks really red with no real contrasts...I think it takes away from the beautiful space and planet backdrop. The scale of the image is remarkable and you get a slight sense of the size of the planet versus the man.

Scale was my main concern, I wanted to show just how small the figures were against the planetoid, so I'm glad that came off. The lighting needs work, but it's a red planet and scene so there's a fair bit of red light thrown on it, no way around that. As for the terrain, all the asteroids I looked at are pretty featureless apart from the odd broken rock or crater, so I thought I'd got it pretty close.

Terrific work!!! I have to agree that the scale of this image is very effective. Although it's really difficult to see everything that's going into this, I think that your lighting is very realistic. Although I must confess that I haven't been on any alien worlds to qualify that last statement. :o) Keep on posting! I am really looking forward to seeing more of your stuff!
