Description

Find The Fish I wonder where that fish has gone. You did love it so. You looked after it like a son. And it went... wherever I... did go. Is it in the cupboard? Yes! Yes! No! Wouldn't you like to know? It was a lovely little fish. And it went... wherever I... did go. It's behind the sofa! Where can that fish be?! Have you thought of the drawers in the bureau?! It is a most elusive fish! And it went... wherever I... did go. Ooooh, fishy, fishy, fishy fish! A fish! A fish! A fish! A fishy, ooooh! Ooooh, fishy, fishy, fishy fish! That went... wherever I... did go. Look up his trunk! Yeah, it's hidden in his trousers! Just a little quote there, that was the extremely bizarre and eccentric "Find The Fish" sketch from Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life - click the link for a picture! Its title inspired this huge image I made a decade ago. It was the first term of my Foundation Course in Art and Design, and one day in December 1993, not long before we finished for the Christmas break, the day's assignment was to create something experimental and large! This was executed on A0 cartridge paper and made use of charcoal, black and white chalks and collaged tissue paper. I'm more used to working on tabletops but here we were encouraged to work vertically, taping our works on the studio walls. No holds barred basically. Only on one occasion before had I worked on a larger scale, and that was a mural for a wall of my high school in early 1989. Guess this isn't like anything else you've ever seen from me, but then it's not something I repeated! Thank you as always for your feedback :-)

This is weird! I really like the colors here! Makes me think of Picasso for some reason! I guess it's because it's an abstract huh! ;) Big hugs my sweet Jim, Pascale.

I like the feeling of depth in it. The floor, the wall and the sky...and some fishes :-)

This has a very 3 dimensional appearance, makes me feel I could step right into some surreal landscape & follow the elusive fish!

This has great depth. I feel like I could walk into it. It has a feeling of reality that's kind of unusual for an almost black and white image. I really like it. When I saw the the thumbnail I was surprised to see your name on it. It's quite different from what you are doing now, but nice. :)

Knowing the Monty Python sketch quite well, I can honestly say that this particular one lives up to the original. You have somehow managed to capture the unique madness beautifully. Tell me though, why not Dead Parrots or maybe a portrait of Dennis Moore or The Knights That Go Nich? My god man, don't stop NOW? ;)

Great artwork, good combination of several technics and the use of only a few colors makes it very strong.
