Description

Pencil (can't remember the grade but probably HB and 2B) on A5 cartridge paper, 22nd June 1993. This untitled pencil drawing was a personal homage to the great British fantasy artists Rodney Matthews and Roger Dean both of whom became famous for their album cover illustrations, particularly Dean who is still synonymous with the prog-rock band Yes and certainly helped with their mystique! The spires of the cityscape are quintessential Matthews, who established this styling in his classic 1976 poster Tanelorn, while the smoothly curved rocks in the foreground were inspired by Dean's dreamscapes. Pretty much totally derivative really, but I still quite like this a decade on :-) Click the links above to check out the works of these artists if you don't know them already! Thanks for taking a look, your feedback is always much appreciated :-)

Great tribute to King Rodger one of my all time hero's. His style complemented the magic of Yes wonderfully. Im off to check the links and more of your work. This one is inspired and looks like its on its way to something bigger. Cheers mate

Ho grande ammirazione per lei ma trovo il chiaroscuro decisamente debole, non mette in risalto gli elementi di un disegno ben fatto.

@Meyrink: Well, it was an old image and pretty amateurish too, but thanks! The light is very bright, lit from the right hand side :-)

I have spent as much time studying Dean's work as I have listening to J.A. - S.H - C.S. - R.W. & B.B. My Fav. Percussionist - I also like his Gentle Giant Stuff - I can see the Yes ship passing through your work - and i definitly feel Deans influence - Super Work !!
