Description

My family and I went to see "The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King" just after Christmas. I must say that I have completely loved the trilogy. Wonderful acting, the amazing effects and attention to detail are more than complimented by the beautiful scenery. Anyway, I've been working on this composition for sometime now. I began by sketching Gandalf and then Frodo...5H, H and HB pencils...I then went into Paint Shop Pro 8 and reduced the size of both portraits, applied a mask to each sketch, and used the transparency effect. After that, having already applied a canvas background to a new canvas I then used the septia color filter. I then began to work on Gandalf's hair, making it whiter with the paintbrush. I did the same with Frodo using a darker brown color. I then added the matting with a wood effect and the photo frame. The Roses are a tube from PSP8 and the Eye is a brush from PSP8. The photos are referenced from wallpaper I have on my computer from The Lord of The Rings website. Thanks for looking and have a great day!...Cheryl P.S. I fixed Frodo's nose. It wasn't looking right to me after I had posted it earlier today.

Just saw the return of the king yesterday (Jan 11). Frodo does look haunted. Looks great.

You've caught them just outside the guild hall. This is dealing with fame in a positive way.

Outstanding rendition my dear Cheryl! You have truly done justice to two of my all-time favorite movie characters. I am a huge fan of the LOTR movies (over the years I have read the books more times than I can remember) and seeing you add these two to your wonderful library of artworks brings a huge grin to my face. The quality you added to this work is evident everywhere I look... Gandalf is done SUPERBLY, Frodo looks remarkable, and the clothing (especially the broach of Lorien) are obviously a labor of much time and love. Great work Cheryl... thank you for sharing this with us!!!!!

You improve with each passing work and this one is no exception. Gandalf and Frodo look very much like their real life subjects and the shading is spot on. Excellent work...
