Description

U.P. Sail 17 I.S.F.M. (Inter Solar Freight Module) The solar sailors of the U.P. are a low cost way of transporting heavy loads within a solar system. The hull is a very thin Titan alloy to save weight. The sail itself is a several square Km large silicon coated carbonpolymere which is a fiew micrometers thick only. For acceleration it depends solemnly on solar winds and swingby manouvers on planets which makes navigation quite a strain on the crew and the voyage a long trip. It does have ionic manouver thrusters to position the ship tho. The focusing point of the huge sail is used to ionise stellar matter which can pass the sail at its front opening and is then gatherd by magnetic turbines on the front of the hull powering a generator. The energy produced is used for Lifesupport and the manouvering thrusters. The title was inspired by Jack Vance`s shortstory "Sail 17 " in which he tells the story of several young ensigns getting tough treatment by a mean Captain (Not Cpt. Dj :)) beeing trained on a similar ship. Enjoy Dj

I have to agree with zulaan, this is an exceptional piece. Your design skills are matched only by your modeling talents. Good to see you expanding the U.P. star vessel series again. :o)

You are the man for sure!! Super work and visualization of the theme. What "other apps"? Dwayne

only thing I might tweak is the sail texture; you want something that reflects almost everything (albedo=100%), it might look like a cliche`, but the physics work out better..great stuff.

I agree with pakled, the Solar Sail Should have a reflective surface, Similar to Mylar foil. But thats my own oppinion. Any Way I love the look of the vessel! The Texturing is great!

Materials, light, depth and modelling are nice.

Totally cool spacecraft!! I tried to make a simliar model based on the one that The Planetary Society is trying to get launched into orbit. I think the concept is great and you did an outstanding job modeling this one!
