Description

Here is an updated version of my XM-3 assault rifle. The initial post is here: http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?galleryid=370272 I added some accessoires, like the optional underbarrel shotgun (similar to the masterkey shotgun of the M4 SOPMOD), a 40mm grenade launcher, bayonet knife, squad automatic exchange barrel and sniper scope rail. I hope you like it. ^_^

It brings to mind the World War I tactic of running to the T in a trench system tossing a grenade down the left arn and sticking your 10 guage double barreled shotgun around the corner of the right and firing one barrel then worming around that corner and pursuing your rounds with the final barrel at ready. Your system of close-in fighting is beginning to mature. These are known reliable and available items with soldiers and whatever may appear in production or manufacture is worth overcoming.

Yessir!! I do like it; & Tallpindo's comments are always a welcome addition. With the squad barrel does it have the double drum mags for extended fire power? I think you have designed a weapon far more suited to CQB trench warefare than a double barrel 10. Superior firepower and controllability, with alternative reach out and touch someone ability that WWI tools of the trade lacked, as he was implying. Love your concepts and renders. Someday I hope to see more thought given to a waldo fighting suit ... similar to that in a sci fi movie of us versus space invading bugs. LOL. Only that one was very cumbersome; like a one man tank with legs and no armour shield. Being in a wheelchair puts battle designs in a new light - gotta be able to arrive, intact, fully functioning and with superior firepower. Just a thought for a capable brain to mull over. Seems there would be a fortune in designing an exoskelton capable of stopping by the store for a gallon or milk - or sanitizig a square mile of jungle with equal ease. Thanks again for posting your supurb concepts. Dwayne

Wow! Seems to be the day of the long comments. Well then. I like your design for an XM8 alternative a lot. The current stage of the XM8 development looks like a childs toy and not like a real weapon for real men. Your design instead looks damn cool and extremely vicious as well. In my opinion a gun should not only be good to shoot people at maximum distance. It has to look dangerous and deadly as well. To me your XM-3 looks like the meanest crossbreeding between an AK-101, G-36 and M-16. Absofuckinglutely excellent work! The modelling work in that design is also breathtaking. The ammo in the clip is not just a stupid texture and you can even see the magazine spring and bottom caps. Wow! You didnt even forget to add frame bolts to the design. The square rod above the barrel is a recoil compensator, I suppose. Right? I have seen such a compensator in the latest Kalashnikov designs like the AK-101 and family. Way cool! You clearly got my vote for this one, pal!!!

Ah, talking of WWI induces me some thoughts about future weapon concepts. WWI was a time man were so overwhelmed of their inventurness, that no second thought about was made. So astonishing inhumane weaponry was used on the battlefields of europe and a mans life -a soldiers life- was counted low in order to the ingenious machine. It was time of machines, not time of man. Thinking of the early 1900 and the industrial age this was no wonder. But nowadays not the machine is the most important thing in warfare, it's information - more than ever. And with that not the concept "superior firepower" but "economical firepower". The soldier that wins with least effort and least "collateral damage" wins the war. Every shot taken by anyone brings information. Every bit of information in a war sums together and causes vast sideeffects on the stock market, on public opinion and on civil movements to stop war. So I don't think weaponry of the future will be build to be most mean and ugly and with superior firepower. This time is definitly over. It's most important for weapons to be designed as a "appropriate measure to endure freedom and peace". An economic, cheap and neat tool to build the moralic superior soldier of future. Clean, effective, low cost. No place for ugly bayonettes or shotguns. No place for overpower and inppropriate collateral damage. The weapon of future is precise, kills or better hurts with least effort but most effect and will be smarter than ever. Make a game of killing people. Time of WWI is over forever. A war may be over, if only a handful are killed or even hurt, especially the innocent. Superior morality wins. Superior PR wins. Information warfare. Think about it. For the weapon, 10 Points of 10 from me, I don't need to repeat the reasons.

Wow! This picture seems to have a strange potential of invocing peoples tendency to start talking about the complete history of warfare. o_O Very interesting. Not that I didnt like long comments, but I must say that it is starting to become a bit strange. g

A wonderfull and perfect design again! Damn it! It gets boring to write the same thing again and again ;-) The design is very stylish and tought-trough, and the caliber sounds nice to have... ceramic casings, interessting concept.

i think its because you have a nife in the picture and as the master hitman say the nife will be the last weapon you will learn i can bet that if you rendered a fat off machete sticking out of a water mellon that would realy get them talking..... like great as ever p.s a barrel fed mag would look good

I did a drum magazine for the squad automatic variation. A single 50-shot drum and a double 100 shot drum. Perhaps Ill post a picture of that later, but first I want to see if there is enough ressonance. If not, I wont bore anyone and post something completely new. ;P

Trying to keep it short lol,, This model of your XM-3 is a great all around assault weapon. The shotgun and grenade launcher combo in a squad would give a nice balance with the barrel extension for a sniper styled cover fire and also be able to follow the squad in without having to change weapons. All that you need now is a range of 40mm grenades that would fit your strike force. A flare grenade is one that would be great for those shadow dwellers or lighting up an area for the sniper. The only change I would say is a carbon black blade for the bayonet knife and darker tint for the rifle mag as this weapon has night ops written all over it.

Super cool. You should really design those stuff at a major corporation.
