Description

Traditionally created in mixed media on canvas. Original size 18" x 24". ~*@*~ I've been enjoying my dear friend Jim's ("Synapse") explanations of the processes behind his latest uploads, so thought I'd share some of my own :) After going over where I wanted the white bits for the feathers and some random scratches and scrumbles with masking fluid, I ended up thining indian ink and blowing it over the bottom third of the canvas with a straw...this made me rather dizzy, but gave a nice effect. I then gave that a bit of body with a scrumbled black acrylic over the top and spattered the black in an almost spiralled spray. I then decided the composition screamed for browns and golds. I grabbed some watercolour paint and did a raw sienna wash over the 'sky'. After that I pulled off the masking fluid and found a raven skull down the bottom left corner. I was going to do that in an expressionistic manner, but got too involved, so it ended up more realistic. I worked the skull with a mixture of crayon, pastel, chalk, charcoal, watercolour and acrylic. The feathers were simple after that, a mixture of black acrylic and watercolour, and I had the painting hanging within eight hours of starting :) ~*@*~ Thanks for viewing and your feedback :)

This is indeed a beautiful painting. It is soothing to the soul to have some "real" paintings among all digital ( and I am among the worst to only work digital) To me it is autumn-like, both in colors and motive. The cycle of life... Thanks for letting us follow the birth of the painting!

I was wondering "what the hell, this is new" then I remembered... it was the one you told me about last week L, finally we get to see it! A true multimedia extravaganza Cass, I think mixing watercolours and acrylics was something I never tried (least I don't think I did) but it sure as hell can work as you've proved here. Just careful with hyperventilating from blowing down those straws... playing didge for too long can do that with me, though I have to say it's a nice kind of feeling in that case! Beautiful work Cassie, as always, and thank you so much for taking us through its processes hugest hugs :-D

boah - this is wonderful - love the mixed media in it - i use acrylics and watercoloure often by myself, you can also achiev interesting textures, for example if you create the texture of a rock - just take thick white acrylic and give it a rough structure, than do a whash over with watercolor, some brown tones, paint it over the acrylic ground - you will see it brings out great effects, very similar to rock or stone textures - i love the result you achieved here with all the different media - so one can see there are no rules in art, the more one experiments with different things the better - excellent job here, and a really stunning result - cassie you are a fantastic artist!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the feeling of movement in this, I find I'm sitting here waiting to see what happens next. It was fascinating to read how you made it too; I've never experimented with anything other than pencils and it's great to know that other combinations can produce such stunning effects as this. Every work you do has a story to tell, not only in how, but in why you made it, and I enjoy each one of them. :D hugs Thank you for sharing this one with us.

Well, that's about as mixed media as it comes, lol. You were definitely on the right trail, though. Everything works so well together. Thanks for the description of the incredible process!

I love it when people use unconventional ways to create their artwork. Great work!

This is beautiful; I love seeing examples of the wide range your artistic talent spanshugs The middle feather looks as if it's ready to waft out of the screen and I love the fine, gritty texture the skull has. The overall picture strikes me as something like early twilight on a summer day, which ties in well with having a skull, signifying a different sort of sunset. Very well done!HUGS
