Description

In 1921, The Dutch experimented with the concept of large cargo transport planes, made entirely of wood (except for decorative stonework). Predating the Hughes "Spruce Goose" by 26 years, the Dutch Elm Boomklever was the largest airplane to never fly. Plans for an eight "engine" model were in the works when Dutch Elm Disease broke out and the project was lost. *** As soon I saw Meski's great windmill, I thought "that thing's gotta fly". The plane was made in Amapi. Tony Lynch wood mat

I'm too young to have seen the disease, but I understand they were some bustin' friggin' huge specimens, so yeah! It's plausible~! But don't you recall, the tulip-power engine 'Bloomen' -klever proved just barely sufficient, until they juiced it up with a special dutch beer treatment.

This is great, Dave! The background is nice, also. I hope you're not in seclusion and washing your hands ten times a day!

I remember the Russians had a flying propaganda machine (I'm not making this up) that would have a movie theatre and speakers..but it may never have gotten off the drawing board..;) Still, good modelling here..

This is too funny! I love your stuff frogdot as I can always count on you for a smile. There actually was a giant tri-plane bomber built after WWI (as a prototype) that did fly (even higher than the Spruce Goose. Check out the "Barling Bomber" image in my gallery.
