"Ya know, this place is still kinda cool, it used to be a lot cool when I was like, you know, a kid." Anita smiles and flicks her hair away from her face as she speaks. She's only eleven, but she's mastered an older look already. "I used to run around the tunnels, there's so much stuff that most people don't see, access tunnells, ventalation shafts and stuff. It's kinda cool crawling around, used to play wargames with the other kids." she pulls a face of disgust as she describes it. "But, it's so dirty and grimy, I used to go home and get such a bollocking from the folks, dragging shit all over the carpet." she laughs out aloud. "But it's all kids stuff, I'm not into that anymore. I kinda just hang out down here now, watching people, wandering around. You can get loads of clothes, jewelry type stuff for nothing down here, my allowance goes a hell of a lot further shopping than topside." Anita is a classic mallbunny, a self-confessed window shopper she drifts with her friends from one place to the next. Somewhere inbetween childhood and adolesence she doesn't have much to do, mentally too old for toys and games, too young and streetshy to do anything risky. Anita hasn't stopped talking to me for twenty minutes, we've wandered the local markets, she's pointed some stuff out she wanted, twsited my arm with a well practised puppy dog look she got most of them. Anita's a rarity in TUBEville, a kid not wasted on slappers or drink, not pickpocketing or scamming anyone, she's just hanging out, enjoying the place. It's refreshing to see it and enjoyable to hear her chatter away. "I don't go outside the central areas, too dangerous, I saw some kids go to through to some of the Zone 2 tunnels, you know, for like a dare, and a couple came back all messed up, they didn't say what had happened, but it scared me half to death." Eventually Anita gets bored with chatting about herself and decides to wander off to an arcade, I hope I don't see her again, at least, not how I see most kids down here. Before she goes I tell her to watch out for drugs. She grins at me and nods. "Yeah, I know all about them, my older brother's in rehab."
