Description

High on the bluff overlooking the falls is a huge old Douglas fir. Over 6 feet through at the base, more than 150 feet tall, it has stood here for over 500 years. The land drops away in a sheer face on the falls side, yet it has stood through wind and fire and every other natural event for more that 5 centuries. Quiet, passive strength personified. Thanks for looking, comments welcome.

King of the Forest and Ruler of all He Surveys. i've always thought such grand titles for a person were utterly stupid. but with a magnificant work of Nature...it's so fitting.

Nice scene, and an intresting story. Well you know what they say, there is no force greater than nature, it must be true. Near to here there is a tree that has outlived two houses, The tree still stands in the garden, and will most likely see the next house through!

Yesterday, the neighbors cut down a beautiful tree. I have no idea why. But I loved that tree, and I almost cried when I went out back and saw just the cut stump that stands a bit higher than the fence between our properties. Thanks for showing me a tree that still stands.

500 years .. think of it what has been 500 years ago .. Cortez in Mexico, Luther, Diaz sailing round Kap Hoorn ... sigh. I can just say "thank you Jim". :)
