Description

I could hear things. The wind whistling by, sometimes screaming in it's rush, rain beating on the roof and it's insistent tapping against the glass.Thunder that seemed to roll on forever before ending in a deafening boom. That was outside. Inside I could sense a soft whispering, thoughwhat it was or where it was coming from I could not tell. And fluttering. All around me and above me, the fluttering. The room was dark, lit only by lightening in sudden blinding flashes. In those instances I tried to discern my surroundings, find my bearings.Look for an exit! What is that fluttering?? Another flash of lightening and I saw it! A staircase. InstinctivelyI knew I had to go up. My sanctuary lay up that stairway. I started toward it, my salvation, my haven from this place. Immediatelythe fluttering sound increased, drew nearer. I quickened my pace, praying my senses would guide me in this dark. I felt a soft breeze against my skin. The fluttering sound wassurrounding me. Birds!! There were birds all around me, hindering my progress. As soon as this realization came to me I felt a sharp pain on my left cheek. I felt the warm trickle of blood. My breath started coming in hard gasps, my heart was pounding in my chest. I must get up that stairway.....to sanctuary. Drivestock from deviantart. Wow! Love it all. Great writing and a great image. Now I'll have another terrible nights sleep, I'll be hearing that fluttering and beating all night. The birds, the lightning, the castle, those white eyeballs, her ripped skin are all elements of our little deaths, haunting our sleep and our waking hours. Terrific work!! v
