Description

*Life Cannot Be Caged Take off your keys the night comes and it's time to go: can't you hear life that calls? Take off that make up... I suck and nothing can hide it when I don't feel myself right... You had me, but I wasn't enough... Why if I did try to give you all I had? But tonight I won't stand cries, I go out at life that calls it's here, I don't wanna miss it out, I'll get life and life will get me and this night ain't gonna be a tearful sea. Mirror, you're lookin at me, mute lost in deadly eyes, deadly eyes that don't reach me now, as I step out in coldly breezes, the ice turns me in and out, flashes of fake lights, rumbles of fake wishes: I need everyone who could need me in this night when life calls someone deaf, someone blind, someone who could just like... I'm lost and broken, and you're not here. But no more cries, life can't be caged, I'll get it and I'll feel new again... with deadly eyes, and deadly heart... You did get me, but I wasn't enough I wasn't enough... I wasn't enough...* ------- Photoshop, 12 layers, from this source pic courtesy of my model here, Pascale (thanx dear!!!!): 1 hour and 15 minutes work. ------------ The second piece in my Poems 96/98 series, after"Your Last Rose". The mood is meant to be frenzy, but grotesque, and in the end shattered and resembling a poisoning nightmare like when you try to go out and feel "great" even being utterly lost. The title of the poem and of the artwork is ironic,of course: a caged heart forcedly lives a caged life.Cold in a cold night where the flashes and the warmening suggestions just look out of place.Thanx again to Pascale for the pic: this piece is not meant to be a portrait of her!that will come later, though ;) Not much to add.. just "enjoy" this quite diverse mood from me! PS: Valentine yesterday was *so* demanding I think today I won't be much around ;) But don't worry, I'm *truely* fine ;)

An effective exercise in what's sometimes known in the business as "car crash typography", meaning deliberately designed to look almost accidentally placed. That kind of typography is perfect for the emotional aspect of this image, and the rectangular blocks of colour are well observed from professional examples! If I were to adjust anything it would be to make the lines of text more irregularly spaced apart, but this is down to personal taste. And isn't Pascale such an expressive model... sweet and obliging person too :-)
Onto the emotional aspect... yeah, I know it, been there a few times! Sometimes I've actually found a night's drinking to help (amazing what alcohol can do for someone like me, I'm not actually that different, just funnier and more sociable and a bit less shy - never ever violent though!) and I can feel much better actually - but for every time that's a complete success there'll probably be another time when I suddenly consider "what the hell am I doing? Who am I trying to kid?" and just slip right back down again! Of course if you're suffering beyond a certain point, a night out will just be utterly incongruous: hence your point :-)

Splendid wotk for your title, Meli! Typography suits perfectly! Pascale is so beautiful model for this - and not only that but so expressive. The hair, I love its movement. Rectangles stop, and then again let go... It's a wild picture. And the feeling not to be enough is just as horrible as it is shown here.

This image makes me think of an ad for some reason! Not a particular one but more of a kind of ads! The ones for road accidents actually! I love those squares of different colors that seems to have been put there randomly! The texture really adds to the feeling too! I find this to be quite dark, kind of anguishing mood! I really like it though, I find it different! And I'm very pleased to be ur model my adorable friend, anytime as u know!! :) All my love sweety baby! :) Mwah!

You have done some fine work here. You have identified a specific feeling and said it clearly in word and image.

Grrrr...I wrote a long comment and swish...it disappeared. Dark, emotional, shattered but with an overwhelming lifeforce. Text and image are so in sync, the typography makes me think of blinking neon. Powerful!

Your artwork and poetry never ceases to amaze me. It is like you are giving yourself away to all who will look and read. Keep some of yourself for yourself.

Impressive...excellent coordination between Mood, Image & Poetry. Each facet captures and supports the other two.

It saddens me that someone could be so sad and alone! Perception is a vital key in healthy emotional constructs! Love is not possesive, and when it expects something in return...it is caged! Great display of emotion, Meli...however sad and disturbing!
