Description

When you do finally crawl out, or uncurl as the case may be, in the morning, there's nothing like a good stretch to get the blood flowing again. These are trumpeter swans. The average adult weighs 30 pounds, and has an 8 foot wingspan. In the '30s, it was estimated there were fewer than 150 in North America, locally here in '78 only 3 returned. Now, due to considerable volunteer work, the local return is over 2000 birds a year, and overall the species is very healthy. Just occasionally, humans get something right.

Majestic creatures I grew up near a big lake filled with black ones. They used to scare the proverbial out of us as kids when we went near their nests.

I am usually fairly well stretched in the Morning ...sigh....and the Blood flows just fine...Hi Cyn...got a fair few of these Ballerinas that call into Foxton, to help the Freedom Geese Paint My Roof....strong Birds....I had a Friend attacked by a Swan....He had His Arm Broken...the force of the Birds Wing....when I saw that the Swan was Winning....I put the Boot into My Mate too....for He had stolen some of My Comics :[

Lovely shot, I must say that they do look rather big, the swans here are mute I think, and maybe a little smaller. Nice story I am glad their numbers have increased. I believe that in the UK all unmarked mute swans are protected and belong to the Queen.

Unfortunately there are many species of, not just birds, but many other animals on the endangered list...but a great story for these guys...and Tedz is right, swans can be quite territorial and nasty :) Great shot Jim, love the wagging tail.
