Description
This image was done for a contest on the Spawn Message board. I did it in about two days from concept to finised piece.
The process starts off with a 3D render, and then a printout to a color laser printer. I then take that image, and with a product similar to Acetate but better, called Dura-Lar, I ink the image. I use a couple of different pens, but am having great results from my Micron Brush pen, as well as about 3-4 different Micron regular pens.
After inking the Dura-Lar, I scan the inked works into Photoshop as a grayscale image. I invert the inks, (making them white with a black background) and copy that image to the alpha channel. I change the other channels back into their original black ink on white, and use the alpha, (which keeps the transparency beautifully!) to chop the white out of the inks. Then it's a simple process of laying this layer over the original 3D file.

Great technique. I might have to try that once see how it goes. Not inking that is but drawing in Photoshop. copy text
