Description

Apophysis 2 betas 14 and 15. This is just a re-working of some older images (Older meaning a couple of weeks, heehee) that I had laying around, lazily eating up KBs on my hard drive. I got a little bit more into the postwork on this one, and I'm feeling ok about it but not ecstatic. This being said, I would really appreciate some constructive criticism (although I can't go back and rework this one much, I forgot to save it with seperate layers~ oops!). So shred away! (Deagol, this means you!)

The only suggestion I can make is that the background is too distracting and needs to be toned down, it diverts attention away from those gorgeous spiral shapes. Also the background looks sharper than the foreground, the opposite of what it should be. Blurring the background would give more depth to the overall image.

What Linda said made a lot of sense. Or maybe a little shot of green in there. I think it's beautiful. I really like the composition.

I was going to suggest tweaking the frame, but what LindaB said makes a lot of sense (I guess one advantage of public criticism is that other people can learn from it too). I love the spirals and the water (like a coral reef emerging) and I think the image would be great if the focus were on them.

Agree with previous comments, but would add that I think making the watery reflections a different color (for example, a deep blue) would really provide a dramatic contrast to the flaming spirals.

Your image certainly depicts the title very well indeed . The spirals are so beautiful that they would have greater interest if they were very much sharper with a more subdued background . The particularly bright background light at the centre of the image does , in my opinion, detract the eye from the superb foreground spirals. If you did wish to make the background display as prominent as the spirals then the latter should be very sharply focused . .....I hope this helps #:-)

Great~ the funny thing is that I softened the edges of the spirals a bit to blend them in with the background more, guess I shouldn't have, huh? :) Everything that you all have said makes a lot of sense, and I really appreciate it.

I agree with LindaB. I would even desaturate the background to add depth.

I am not really qualified to offer criticism good or bad, as I am not very good with Apophysis..... rubbish truthfully. However, I understand what Linda says, and all the other very positive comments. Still, I think it is a wonderful scene, and the colouring is terrific.

....hey! -- I quite like it as is ( so take me out back and shoot me!) -----has a nice edge to it---I like those sparklers going off in the background -- don't know anything about fractals -- but this one is good on the atmosphere and mood.
