In my opinion you're definetely on the right track. Great surface on the ground. I think for the first try the strata is nice. I like this terrain much more then the terrains in your previous images. Regarding the atmosphere I prefer your previous image. I'm looking forward to your next work.

Beautiful clouds and atmosphere! Very nice terrain! Your main problem, in my opinion, is that you need a different strata image. That you are using strata at all at this point is quite an accomplishment in itself. A good strata strip has a very tiny "texture": the lines are thin and close together. It is also possible that the minimum and maximum height you used were too far apart, and that takes experimenting, because it's easy to have your strata miss your mountains altogether. It just takes a lot of experimenting and tweaking. You're doing great!

What "drew" me to this image was the surface of the terrain - the lines going across it! I sort of have heard of the programs that you mentioned but I have quite a few Terragen-related programs that I'm still learning myself but its always good to see what others are doing with the program too!
