Description

I saw two old souls Sitting on a front porch swing together and wondered, as I watched What they were like when they were young? Did they know the passions of youth The heart pounding terrible longings Did they know the pain of an unfaithful lover or the joy of love returned? Do they dream of days when skin was firm Unwrinkled... And eyes still bright, undimmed? Do they still see each other In their glorious youth, laughing, planning, hoping? To have shared lifes road together As they now share the front porch swing What patience must have grown there The sharing of burdens Such loving care must have been given Lord, Grant me, that on my road of life There might be someone on the end With whom I may look back with At all the sharing and loving we've known So that someday Someone Might see us together on that front porch swing and Wonder~

Exquisite! I may use this as a prayer! There is not much road left, and my swing is still only half full! Bravo!

beautiful & very thoughtful poem... i've often wondered myself but after working with older folks for years, it warms my heart to see a love endure so much, when one starts talking the other can finish the thought, where one loses their hearing the other their sight, they rely on each other so much... a long love... one that is constantly renewed through the hardships... wonderful & touching words suzy hugz :]

I often see couples like this and their peace and contentment with each other is a joy to behold. The tenderness with which they look at each other is a truely heartwarming sight to see. Beautiful poem, capturing moments of a lifetime!

Exquisite poem. You have really captured the journey of life and love with your heartfelt words that are so full of wisdom and tenderness. I have a soulmate and imagine us siting on that swing someday, recalling our springtime - and just enjoying being together. Very beautiful poetry - and a VOTE. :O) CC

I entered this place with a bit of a dread in my heart, I was not sure if I would understand the poems, was never good at it at school. I read this poem and the closeness to the reality in the subject really touched my heart and yes, I do see a couple swining as you mentioned and yes, these were the ver questions that came to my heart...... even now I look at them and wonder as one has become old and the other tries to help him with her own feeble hands, the message of love, i can feel. Thanks friend such lovely treat.:O)) SNAKEY

Exactly what they are thinking.
Quote: Lord, Grant me, that on my road of life There might be someone on the end With whom I may look back with At all the sharing and loving we've known So that someday Someone Might see us together on that front porch swing and Wonder~
I love these words.

This is a warm and generous poem ... and just the right length. It's good to see a poem about older folk which is nor patronising. Bravo!

My Mom and Dad. Dad now gone one. Mom still with me, or rather, me with her. No one for me. So sad to see the future as being alone.
