Description

Triglav, Slovenia (2800m). The upper sections of the route up Triglav are "Via Ferrata", scrambling, protected by metal wires fastened to the rock. I couldn't help noticing the amount of carefully prepared little memorials we passed on these sections. I know that people die every year on this mountain (its popular), and I knew that rock falls were common, but when I asked our guide about the memorial cairns on the protected sections, he told me they were due to lightning strikes. It just seemed a bit ironic that the metal wire thats supposed to protect you from falling could zap you without warning. Theres a message in there somewhere!

The message could be look out for big black clouds! This is an impressive shot, I recently met an old man that claims to have climed 900 mountains and hills in hes lifetime. That is imperssive also, only 899 to go!
