Description

This image stars a new series from the March Air Reserve Base AirFest 2004 in Riverside, California. I had a 75-300mm IS USM lens on a Canon Rebel EOS 300D D-SLR... and I got 4,141 of the best images I've ever taken at an airshow, not to mention the closest! Enjoy! ::: Part 1 of a series of March Air Reserve Base AirFest 2004 photos ::: Taken 4-24/25-2004 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --- For more warbird images, please visit http://www.warbirds.n3.net --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This aircraft is a B-17G Flying Fortress named 'Sentimental Journey'. B-17s were the pride of our American Bomber fleet in world war 2 along with the less famous B-24 Liberator. The B-17 was made most famous by the aircraft 'Memphis Belle' and it's tour around the country as well as movie in the 1990s. The B-17 remains one of the most impressive bombers to grace the skies. It's sheer size and throaty roar impress any onlooker. Some information about this pictured B-17: "Sentimental Journey came off the Douglas assembly line in late 1944 and served in the Pacific. After the war, it was transferred to Elgin Field Florida for service as an air-sea rescue craft and in 1959 went into military storage at Davis-Monthan Air Base in Tucson Arizona. It was then sold to a California corporation for service as a borate bomber, flying thousands of sorties against forest fires throughout the country. In January 1978 at the formation of the Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, the announcement was made of the donation of B-17G #N9323Z to the Commemorative Air Force for assignment to the Arizona Wing. It was then disassembled, and painstakingly restored to its original World War II configuration. Sentimental Journey is displayed from late Fall to Spring each year at our hangar before it leaves on summer tour, visiting an average of 60 cities and towns across the United States each year as a patriotic and educational exhibit." This images was taken with a Canon Rebel EOS 300D (6 Megapixel D-SLR) with a Canon 75-300mm IS USM F4.9 lens.

4,141? Sure you had the count correct? A super picture of a no-nonsense airplane. Well done.
