Description

This is not an "artistic" picture, I just wanted to show a bit of my small hometown (18,000 people), precisely, the old thermal building. I photographed it the other day. thanks for viewing :-) Orio

The architecture of this building is quite impressive. I wouldn't have minded knowing a bit more about this intriguing building!

Hi WiserAngel. This thermal building was built 1913-1923. The original plan was even much huger, it feature two large lateral wings and big circular stairways that should have embraced the whole piazza (in a scheme similar to that of Piazza S.Pietro in Rome). Financial restraints forced to reduce the original plan to what you see today. The decorations, both inside and outside, have been made by Galileo Chini, who is considered the most important Italian artist in the Art Deco Style. Chini's influences of oriental art (he worked for several years at the court of the king of Thailand) are clearly visible throughout the structure and decorations. This building is considered one of the most important in Italy with regards to the Liberty-Deco period. I will try to photograph some details of it both inside and outside, and show them. Thanks, Orio.
