Description

UF. As a child, May 1st was a special day. We picked flowers and made pretty paper baskets and went around in our neighborhood, knocking at doors and leaving a basket of flowers and then ran and hid before anyone answered the door. We were so delighted when the lady of the house exclaimed her pleasure at this gift from some unknown person. I don't believe this is done these days. Rather sad. Guess this dates me. :)) Thanks each and every one of you who took time to view and write such wonderful comments on my last image, 'Dawn's Early Light'. I read each one and feel very flattered. Marion

I know---there are no flowers in this except the hint of one in the center. Just rather symbolic, I guess.

I remember May Day..John and I were just talking about it. It's too bad that for most children in the US, it goes unrecognized now. Such a delicate and lovely image, Marion. Thanks!

Oh, what lovely memories to have, and such a shame no-one does that today. This is a simple fractal, but so very very beautiful, and so delicate, it's gorgeous. V

Too bad they lost that tradition, but this is a wonderful piece! Love the colors of the 'pieces' of spiral, and the center 'n' are just right to accent them. (:

So much better of a story than looking at the latest Mayflies from the threat exhibited in parades and fly overs in the dark parts of the world.

Hi Marion, Don't remember that ever being a custom in Australia, we do have parades and gatherings for picnics in the parks, but what a beautiful image, love the little fragments of flowers and ribbons that surround the centrepiece of a pretty fractal . Lovely work and tradition

I think this expresses your story very well. A hint of a delicate flower in the center and confetti scattered about in beautiful shades of violet and green kind of reminds me of flower petals. A beautiful composition. Would probably make a very nice card as well :)

What a coincidence ... I'm just completely a [autobiographical] short story set partly on May 1st and partly on Halloween some years later. It's called 'Queen of the May' and the first part is about 'maying' an urban version where we dressed a pretty girl + attendants [1 'king' and 2 or more maids] in costumes made of crepe paper and tinsel, and went door to door singing: "We come to greet you here today And we hope you will not turn us away As we dance and sing our merry tune On a May Pole day [dance round the pole, singing] For we're all as bright as the sun as bright as the blossom that blooms in the May and we share all our brightness today" Hopefully we would be given goodies ... just as you have given us this lovely image. Thank you Marion, I'll call again!
