Description
April and Katerina step down into the main chamber of the shrine, finding the Shinkae in the process of preparing dinner. "Bailin," Katerina calls, "do you know where Amy and Emma went?"
Bailin puts down the plate she was carrying and stands completely still. An expression of deep concentration falls across her face. A soft green glow pulses inside her pupils. "They went for a walk," she says, her voice distant and dreamy. "They're by the bend in the river."
Katerina: "And Amy, has she made her decision? Is she going to betray us?"
Bailin: "She's made her decision. She's frightened...but determined."
Suddenly Skayne, whose eyes are also aglow, speaks dreamily of the events beyond the walls. "Wait...wait, there's something else..."
Bailin's face contorts as though trying to stare through the walls of the shrine. "Something's coming."
Katerina starts to look worried. She kneels in front of the girls. "What's coming? What is it?"
Skayne: "It's not human."
Katerina: "Is it friend or foe?"
Bailin: "I'm not sure. It...it wants something."
Finally, Esmin looks up from the table and speaks: "It's hungry."
