Emma: "What is it, Amy?" "Well," Amy begins, "I've only been in Sarodor for a few days now. The only reason I've heard of you and April is because Sinistra told me about you." Emma: "What did she say?" Amy: "Well, she told me you had both run away from the Temple. She said it was because you mistakenly believed she was trying to hurt you instead of help you. She told me you were trying to start a revolution, to destroy everything she has worked so hard to achieve. She also told me that neither of you had been seen in many weeks, and that she wasn't even sure if you were alive anymore." Emma: "We almost weren't. If not for Katerina, we'd both be dead." Amy nods quietly and stares at the ground, avoiding Emma's eyes. "She also told me, in case you came back, that I should go with you willingly. She said I should stay with you for a little while and then...when the time was right...to run away, and tell her where you are hiding." Emma's heart sinks. She stares at Amy, wondering what is coming next. A fresh chill runs down her spine as her sense of danger reaches its peak. Amy swallows and looks Emma directly in the eyes. "But after all the love and care you and Katerina have shown me today, I just can't see why Sinistra thinks you're such a danger. I'm going to return to the Temple tomorrow morning. But I've decided not to tell Sinistra anything." Emma studies Amy's face, and finds nothing but truth in her eyes. She breathes a sigh of relief and takes her new friend's hand. "Why don't you stay? We'll take very good care of each other. We're like a family here." "I know," Amy says, and smiles sadly. "But Sinistra is like my family, too. Better than family. She rescued me in my darkest hour. She showed me love and compassion when I felt alone and hopeless. Just as Katerina saved your life, Sinistra saved mine. "Besides which, we've grown very close. If I don't return to the Temple soon she'll think something is wrong. She might bring Lucistra back to the Temple. From the stories I've heard, that would be bad for everyone." The two girls embrace, tears streaming down their cheeks, angry and frustrated by the unfairness of it all. Suddenly Amy spots something moving. She squints through the tears, trying to make sense of the shape - small, four-legged, pacing slowly and deliberately along the riverbank about twenty metres in front of her. "What is that?" she asks, letting go of Emma and pointing in the direction of the shape. Emma stares at it silently for a few moments. "Oh my God, it looks like...like a kitten!"
