In the scourge that became known as the Wolf Hordes, Cassandra Mourngrym, the Black Witch of Fenris, and Ymikar Turgrym, the Unholy Warrior called Black Wolf, drew many different races and creatures into their service. From the north came the Tarkanian Hordes, constantly warring tribes brought together by the power of the Black Witch's sorcery. From the mountains came the Q'llani; human giants, naked berserkers covered only in magical glyphs and tattoos. From the woodlands of northern Carellon, the Gnollak under the command of the Flind General, Thoulbrek Bloodjaws. And from the enslaved Kingdom of Shabrund, Dwarven artillery units sporting the new rifled three inch bore field pieces.

But the Wolf Hordes' greatest assets were not from Arrallon at all, at least not entirely. Under Black Wolf's banner, dozens of Planars from the underworld rallied. To that number, add two leaders. Blorrzeg, an Abyssal Lord, half-demon nephew of the Mighty Graz'zt, and commander of Black Wolf's elite Assassination squad. The other leader was a Warmaster, a powerful half-demon Weaponsmaster, daughter of the Demon Mercenary General Khallirashta Ashagra and the Thune Warmaster Mallapha Sing. Eris Ashagra took after her mother in that she had four arms and a taste for blood, and like both her father and her mother, she was an unholy terror on the battlefield. She took command of Black Wolf's goblinoid troops, and whipped them into a fighting force unrivaled. But she was never mistaken for loyal. She deserted with her entire army when the war turned against Black Wolf.

After the war, she led her ragtag band of Hobgoblin elites against the elves at Shallymyra. And finding defeat not only for herself, but for her mother as well in the face of the Silver Gryphon, she set about forging a secret organization whose sole purpose was the eradication of the Silver Gryphon and all its progeny. She found like minded villains, defeated or outmaneuvered by the heroes of the Kingdom of Carellon, and seduced them into her cause. In time, she became one of the three leaders of the Coalition of Vengeance Eternal, COVE.
