SONG TWELFTH
During the night, while with Argante it assists to the feverish job to put again in sixth the defenses, Clorinda it promises to herself to go to set on fire the great tower of the Christians; Argante tells then her that she will want to be next to her in the enterprise. In agreement they bring him from the king Aladino and they expose the plan; also Solimano wants to participate in the enterprise, but the king dissuades while Ismeno asks that they attend a few times to prepare an admixture that can set on fire well the tower. While Clorinda dresses him, Arsete, that had been her believer servant for the whole life, asks her to abdicate the enterprise, but it is useless; then it discloses her what its true origins are: daughter of Senapo, Christian king of Ethiopia, had been born white from black mother and not to bump the jealousy of the king, had been abandoned to the birth with big pain from his/her mother and harvest from Arsete, that hid her and she grew in the pagan, brave and game religion in the weapons. Clorinda clears him telling him that she would always have followed the faith in which she had been polite. To dark night, Clorinda, Argante and Ismeno they go out of the city and they set on fire the tower; two teams of Christians hasten: breve is the battle while the pagans reenter in the city through the golden Door; but Clorinda is late, and then it mixes him to the Christian soldiers. Alone Tancredi recognizes her and the challenge to duel, engaging a deadly fight without being recognized. Struck to death, before exhaling she asks to be baptized. Tancredi the face discovers then her: great it is his/her pain in to recognize her, a pain that calms down only to the words of Pietro the hermit. In the night before the funerals, Tancredi dreams Clorinda, that appears him in all of his/her celestial beauty. To the morning the hero he wakes up consulate. It spreads in the city the news of the death of Clorinda; he cries
